Burung-madu matari merupakan tipikal burung yang setia pada pasangannya. Saat musim berbiak, biasanya sang betina akan membuat sarang dari rerumputan kering dan serat tumbuhan yang dipadu dengan jaring laba-laba sebagai perekat. Di dalam sarang yang berbentuk kubah menggantung itulah sang betina bertelur yang jumlahnya sekitar dua butir. Sementara, sang jantan bertugas mengawasi dan memastikan keamanan sarang dari para pengganggu serta membantu membesarkan anak.
Secara umum, sang jantan memiliki warna terang pada bulu dada dan hijau mengkilap mulai dahi hingga tenggorokan. Warna bulu sang jantan ini kerap digunakan sebagai pembeda untuk sesama anggota keluarga burung madu. Sementara, sosok si betina kadang membuat kita ragu karena warnanya yang agak menyerupai kerabat dekatnya yaitu burung-madu sriganti (Nectarinia jugularis) yang juga menempati relung yang sama.
