Raptor Watch 2018

Indonesia, which is located in the equatorial region and receives sunlight throughout the year, is one of the transit and destination areas for migratory birds from all over the world. The eagle is one of the species that designates Indonesia as their main migratory destination. This predator species undertakes the flight through the path known as the East Asia Continental Flyway, which stretches from Siberia to Southeast Asia.

It is estimated that about one million individual predator birds will traverse the Eastern Mainland Corridor, which is approximately seven thousand kilometres in length. Several types of raptors routinely pass through the East Mainland Corridor, including the Chinese Sparrowhawk (Accipiter soloensis), Japanese Sparrowhawk (Accipiter gularis), and Oriental Honey-buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus). The Bukit Paralayang is one of excellent spots for raptor migration observation.
